Best Itinerary of 2 Days Desert Tour in Morocco

Day 1Fes - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Merzouga Sahara Desert

Your 2-day desert tour begins with a pick-up from your accommodation in Fes. From there, we travel toward the Sahara Desert. Our first stop will be the city of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its cooler climate and alpine-style architecture. Next, we will cross the Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we’ll make a stop in a cedar forest to observe the Barbary monkeys, which are native to the region.

Next, we will stop for meal lunch at a restaurant along the route. Afterward, we’ll continue our journey through the Ziz Valley, a lush oasis filled with palm trees. We’ll take a break at a panoramic viewpoint to enjoy the breathtaking views of the valley. We will reach the desert in the afternoon, where your camels will be waiting to take you across the golden dunes to your luxury or traditional desert camp.

Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to watch the sunset from a high dune. Once you arrive at the campsite, the staff will show you to your private tent, where you can relax and freshen up with a shower. After a delicious dinner, the team will light a bonfire, and you can enjoy the warm atmosphere while the Berbers drum and sing, creating a magical desert evening.

Day 2Merzouga Sahra Desert - Rissani - Erfoud - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Fes

After breakfast, we leave the desert and head to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading hub in the region, and its souk comes alive on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After exploring the vibrant souk, we continue on to Erfoud, where we visit a workshop that produces fossilized marble.

Next, we drive along the Ziz River, stopping to enjoy the panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. You’ll have some free time for lunch in Midelt before we continue to the Cedars Forest, home to the Barbary macaques. Feel free to feed them as you wander through the forest. Along the way, we’ll make several stops for coffee, photographs, and to stretch our legs while traveling through forests, valleys, and mountains.
